Who is teaching?
After earning his Master's & Credential in Special Education from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Andy worked as a Special Education teacher at the elementary level. Andy received formal Orton Gillingham Training through both the Orton Gillingham Academy and the Sonday Reading System. Andy fell in love with reading instruction and seeing students’ overall confidence grow in tandem with their reading skills. Many of his previous students have described him as the “most fun teacher ever.” Andy always brings fun to the instruction, and his most significant strength is making trusting connections.
Teachers, not Tutors
Most reading support centers employ tutors or non-credentialed staff to work with students.
We use many elements, but the core program was created by one of the first fellows of Orton-Gillingham Institute. The Orton-Gillingham Approach is a direct, explicit, multi-sensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy when reading, writing, and spelling for beginners, those progressing, or those who need more time in foundational skills. Many school districts use this evidence-based and research-backed program, and over time, our former students have made multi-grade level jumps in reading, spelling, and writing skills using this curriculum. Maybe just as important, they all grew in their confidence in the classroom and social environments. This program works for everyone, and we've seen that it's possible to make meaningful progress without spending hours per day with less effective methods and parents having to pay tens of thousands of dollars.
Virtual Note: Despite the common misconception that kids are not able to focus on a screen during instruction, our program and style have proven to be just as effective as in-person.
